A native of Miami, Florida, Stephen Bittel, completed his compulsory education in Miami and later went on to attend college in Maine. After completing his undergraduate degree, he went on to study abroad for one year after being awarded the Watson Fellowship. While studying abroad, Stephen came up with his idea for a business after forming valuable connections in the real estate industry. While he went on to become a real estate entrepreneur, Bittel has said that he originally planned to become a lawyer.
